Hello Kerrianne,
Thank you so much for your inquiry! We would love to be part of your event and we can bring various different sizes of groups, from solo to a 7-piece.
Please click the button above to give us some additional logistical information about your event so we can offer you the most discounted price. You receive a special discount just for providing this information on line!
We are also available to review the details of your event with you on the phone and calculate the best price we can offer. Please call 206-919-2328 or respond to this email with the best time for us to call you.
We play a variety of upbeat, fun tropical styles from all over the Caribbean, Hawaii and the world, such as Hawaiian, Merengue, Salsa, Calypso, Reggae, Brazilian music, etc. We also play North American pop tunes that everyone will recognize, but with a tropical twist. When appropriate, we get the audience involved as much as possible with playing percussion, dancing, singing, etc.Click here for more information!
Very rough prices are available below for various configurations of our performance. These are high-end prices and will typically go down, sometimes by up to several hundred dollars, if you click for price discounts. It is very rare that the price would be higher than what is quoted for the configurations below.
For example, based on the information that we currently have the price for Ian Dobson's Steel Drum Party for 1 musicians performing for 1 hours on 07/14/2017 08:00 PM would be around 450. However, if you click for price discounts this could potentially go as low as 275 and might even go lower.
We look forward to adding that special tropical touch to your event!

Ian performs all solos, typically playing steel drum(s), ukulele, electronic marimba, percussion, and singing in English/Spanish/Portuguese. After playing at events for 20 years he knows how to make his solo performance fit really well in almost all situations. The potential special advantages of the solo configuration are:
- It's a completely unique steel drum, ukulele, marimba, percussion, DJ experience
- it’s our best budget option
- if you want background music that is a mixture of all acoustic and acoustic/electric
- if you have very limited space available for musicians
- if you want a dance party mixing live acoustic music making with DJ technology
- if you want a library, school, or other youth-oriented stage show
- if you want an affordable family-friendly adult oriented stage show for a retirement facility, library, theater, etc.
- if you want very very low volume music

Like the solo, the duo works really well in almost all situations. The potential special advantages of the duo configuration are:
- more instruments on stage, usually including an added pair of steel drums and/or, if space and technical considerations permit, an acoustic marimba. For a budget Latin dance party a conga player can substitute for the steel drum/marimba player.
- the ability to play all acoustic background music for several hours
- a completely unique steel drum, ukulele, marimba, percussion, DJ experience
- it's a good budget option
- if you have limited space available for musicians
- if you want a dance party with mixing DJ technology with live music making and several musicians on stage
- if you want very very low volume music

Like the solo, the trio works really well in almost all situations. The potential special advantages of the trio configuration are:
- it's our best budget option for a Latin dance party
- more instruments on stage, usually including congas/percussion and an added pair of steel drums and/or an acoustic marimba
- the ability to play all acoustic background music for several hours with more rhythmic drive than the duo
- a completely unique steel drum, ukulele, marimba, percussion, DJ experience
- if you want very low volume music

The extended configurations work really well in many situations. They don’t work so well if you want extremely low volume music, have a limited budget, and/or have very limited space for the band to set up. The potential special advantages of the extended configurations are:
- if you want an all live band with minimal tracks or looping
- if you want more musicians and instruments on stage for visual interest. A quartet typically includes a steel drum player, a steel drum and/or marimba player, an electric bass player, and a drum set player. With 5 to 7 musicians we might add congas/percussion, more vocals, horn, etc. The particular configuration will be tailored somewhat to your event.
- if you are presenting a large event with full sound reinforcement and sound engineer
- if you want an all-live Latin dance party 5-7 musicians are ideal configurations
- if you want low-volume all-live background music that has more rhythmic drive and a fuller sound than the all-acoustic trio. We can play softly even with the full band, just not quite as softly as the solo/duo/trio. 4 musicians is the best budget option for this
